Guides on finding, understanding and dealing with wasp nests.
Wasps do not only nest in roofs. A colony in a hole in the ground can be disturbed by a footstep or a mower, which makes do-it-yourself attempts surprisingly risky.
A few quick checks at the right times of year can catch a nest before it becomes a problem, and this guide sets out what to look for and when.
When the wasps have moved in among the deckchairs, paint tins and boxes, the question is not just how to treat the nest but how to get your belongings back safely.
A nest betrays itself through a pattern: a steady line of wasps to one spot, at all hours of the day. Learning to read it tells you when to worry.
Outbuildings are quiet, dry and rarely visited, which is why queens like them. A simple spring routine can help you catch a new nest while it is still small.
