Guides on finding, understanding and dealing with wasp nests.
There is a right moment to repair the gap a nest has been using, and it is not while the colony is still alive behind it.
Late in the year, wasps lose their jobs and find a taste for sugar, so they turn up in houses just when you thought the season was over.
It seems logical to plug the hole wasps use to get into a wall, but closing an active entrance usually sends the colony somewhere worse.
Finding the nest is only half the story. What you do with the gap afterwards decides whether wasps return next spring, so it is worth planning the repair from the start.
A wasp nest at a place of business is more than a nuisance, because staff, customers and deliveries all pass through the same space. Early treatment keeps matters low-key.
