How Much Does Wasp Nest Removal Cost in Conisbrough?

A second nest costs £25 on top of the first, so it is worth knowing where wasps like to hide it. Here is how to look safely and how to mention it when you book.

Why a second nest comes up

Most callers have one nest. A few have two, and sometimes the second is not discovered until the technician is already there. Because a second nest at the same property is priced at £25 extra, the cost of dealing with it is modest, but it is helpful to know about it early so the job is planned properly.

Down in the Don Valley between Doncaster and Rotherham, as anywhere else, wasps do not choose one site and stay faithful to it. Several queens can establish themselves around a single property in spring, and not all of the nests survive, but any that do will be growing through the summer.

Where a second nest is likely to be

Think of the property in zones. If the first nest is in the roofline, a second may be in the garden, in the shed, or in a bank at the bottom of the lawn. Wasps use whichever sheltered space they can find, and they can use several.

A pattern worth noticing is two separate flight paths. If wasps are streaming along one line at the back of the house and another line is visible at the front, those may be two entrances, or two nests.

Keep in mind that the number of wasps you can see flying is a poor guide to how many nests there are. One busy nest can look like several, and two quiet ones can look like one.

How to look without taking a risk

Watching is safe from a distance. Touching, shaking or poking anything is not. Choose a calm part of the day, stand well back, and follow the wasps with your eyes rather than your feet.

  1. Stand at least a few metres from the area you are watching and keep still.
  2. Note where wasps arrive from and where they disappear to.
  3. Make a short note or take a quick photo from a safe spot, noting the part of the building.
  4. Repeat the check at another time of day, since the activity can look different.
  5. Come inside and make the call, rather than going closer for a better look.

Do not block a hole to see what happens. Doing that can make wasps search for another exit, which can mean indoors.

A second nest is also more likely to be missed when the first one is very busy. All the attention goes to the obvious one, and quieter activity elsewhere is put down to stray wasps from the same colony. It is a good habit to spend a few minutes looking at the whole outside of the property, not only the area near the door where you first noticed the problem.

Telling us when you book

When you ring 07798 792 774, mention if you think there are two nests. It means the person who takes the call can tell you the cost straight away: £70 for the first nest, £25 for the additional one, confirmed before the technician comes out.

If a second nest only appears on the day, the technician will raise it with you before treating it, because nothing is done without your agreement. You are never surprised with a bigger charge halfway through.

As with any wasp nest job, the only thing that could take the price above that arrangement is difficult access, where special equipment is needed to reach a nest. If either of your nests is in a spot like that, you will hear about it on the phone.

Do not be put off if you are unsure how many nests there are. Say what you have seen, and the rest can be established on the day. The technician looks around the property with you in mind, not just the single spot you pointed out, and anything additional is raised with you before it is treated.

It is also fine to ring back later in the week if you spot a new line of wasp traffic after the first visit. Explain what happened at the earlier visit and what you can see now, and the new nest will be priced in the same open way.

Why not wait and see

There is a temptation to deal with the obvious nest and hope that anything else fades away. It might not. A colony peaks in August and can hold as many as 2,000 wasps, and a second nest that you have ignored can keep a garden out of use even after the first is dealt with.

With a charge of only £25 extra, there is little sense in leaving a second one to grow. Ask the technician, too, whether the empty nests can be taken down once they have been treated; raising it when you book makes the visit smoother.

If anyone is stung while you are checking, wash the area, take out the sting if you can see it and use a cold pack. Swelling of the face, lips or throat, difficulty breathing, dizziness or a spreading rash means calling 999 immediately.

Take a little time at the end of each check to write down what you saw. Even a rough sketch of the house with arrows showing where wasps were flying is enough to help when you ring. It also stops you from relying on memory when the person asks which side of the building the traffic was heading for.

If you cannot see anything clear, say that as well. Sometimes the only clue is a faint papery scratching sound inside a wall, or wasps appearing indoors with no visible way in. Those clues are valuable and they do not need to be turned into a diagnosis before you call.
