Wasp Nest in Your Garden Shed? Safe Treatment Options in Sunnyside

Knowing what happens from first call to final goodbye takes much of the worry out of getting a shed nest treated, so here is the whole process in order.

Before you call: what to gather

A good booking starts with a few simple observations. You do not need to be an expert, and you should not go closer to the nest to find them out. From a safe distance, note where the wasps are flying in and out, what time of day they seem busiest and how long you have noticed them. Take a photograph of the shed from a distance if you can, showing the roof, the doors and any gate.

It also helps to know the practical details: how to reach the shed, whether there is a locked gate, and whether there is anything at the entrance such as a bike or a stack of boxes. The technician can work with whatever the situation is, but a clear description saves time.

If the shed is in a shared garden, check who needs to be informed. A short message to anyone who uses the space avoids someone wandering in at the wrong moment. If the shed belongs to someone else, for instance a landlord, check your tenancy agreement for who arranges and pays for pest treatment, and talk to them before booking.

Making contact

You can phone, use the online booking form, or send a message through the contact page. When a form is submitted, the technician in your area is alerted by SMS and email, seven days a week, so a message sent on a Sunday does not wait until Monday.

Tell us the address, the town (Sunnyside, in your case) and what you have seen. If you have tried anything yourself, say so. If a neighbour shares the wall or fence, mention that too. If the shed is at a business, give the contact name for the day.

If you are not sure which method to use, the form is a good default: you can describe the situation in your own words, at any hour, and attach no pressure to it. We will then confirm details and the price by phone.

The price conversation

This is the point where many people expect to be surprised, and where we try to avoid it. Treatment is a fixed £70 for each nest, there is no call-out charge, and an additional nest on the same property is £25 extra. We settle the price by phone before the technician arrives.

The only exception is a nest in a difficult place that needs special access equipment, for instance high on a roof edge. In that case the price might be more, and you will be told before the visit goes ahead. No work is done without your agreement, so if the figure is not right for you, you are free to say so.

It is worth knowing that the price does not rise because a nest looks large or because the colony has grown through the summer. The figure agreed on the phone is the figure that applies, unless access equipment is genuinely required.

Getting ready for the visit

A little preparation makes the visit easier for everyone.

You do not need to be standing in the garden. In most cases the technician is happy for you to stay indoors and will knock when the work is done.

Photographs are helpful, but only if taken from a safe distance. Please do not approach the shed, even briefly, to get a better shot. A picture of the outside wall and roof is enough.

On the day

The technician will look at the shed, confirm where the nest is and decide how to approach it. They are fully insured and qualified. They will treat the nest, and they can tell you afterwards what they found and when it is safe to go back in. The service is available seven days a week, and same-day visits are offered, subject to availability.

If the nest turns out to be somewhere that needs equipment you did not expect, the technician will talk it through with you first. If a second nest is found on the property, it is £25 and again requires your agreement.

Treatment is quick compared with the worry beforehand. There is no need to be present for all of it, and you do not have to supply anything. Just make sure the path is clear and everyone stays indoors until the technician says otherwise.

After the visit

Follow the technician’s advice on how long to leave the shed closed. A few stray wasps may be seen for a short time afterwards, and that is not unusual. When you go back in, ventilate the building, wear long sleeves and open things out in the daylight.

If you would like the empty nest taken down, ask the technician at booking. Over winter, fill obvious gaps, and in spring take a look around the building so any new nest is spotted early. To book, call 07798 792 774, or use the booking form or contact page.

If you see wasps in the following day or two, do not be alarmed, but do let us know if activity continues. Keep a note of what you see and when, so the conversation is based on facts rather than memory.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be at home while the nest is treated?
Often not, provided the technician can reach the shed and you have agreed the price beforehand. Tell us when you book if you will be out.
Can I book for a weekend or the same day?
We are open seven days a week and offer same-day service. Contact us as early as you can and we will do our best to arrange a visit.
What if I am not sure the insects are wasps?
Describe them and send a photo through the contact form if you can. We treat wasps, not bees, and will say if it sounds like something else.
